Ellen Berscheid is an American social psychologist known for her research in the field of interpersonal relationships. She was born on March 20, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York.
Berscheid earned her B.A. in psychology from the City College of New York in 1955, followed by a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1962. She then taught at the University of Minnesota for 40 years, where she co-founded the Social Psychology Program and became a distinguished professor.
Berscheid's research has focused on the different aspects of interpersonal relationships, including attraction, love, attachment, and sex. She has also studied factors that contribute to the formation and success of romantic relationships.
Throughout her career, Berscheid has received numerous awards and recognition for her contributions to the field of social psychology. She has also authored several books, including "Interpersonal Relations" and "The Psychology of Interpersonal Relationships."
Berscheid retired from the University of Minnesota in 2001 and continues to be an active researcher and scholar in her field.
